Pet wellness expert, are you wanting to harness the power of Instagram for your pet wellness brand? You’re in the right spot! Instagram is a super popular social media platform, and it’s a really strategic place for pet wellness experts to hang out.

Here’s your own guide to using Instagram for your business.

Knowing Your Ideal Customer

As much as I love Instagram, it’s important to note that Instagram is not the only social media platform and oftentimes, may not be a social media platform worth focusing on at all. You only have so much time to dedicate to social media, whether you’re handling it all yourself or hiring on help. It’s important to focus your attention on where your ideal customer is spending their time.

Instagram: The Basics

Super familiar with Instagram already? Skip this whole section.

But if you want to make sure you understand the ins + outs of the Instagram platform, keep reading.

On the home screen of your Instagram page, you will see a series of useful icons all along the bottom of the screen. The first is your home button (shown with a house icon) which will bring you back to this screen from anywhere inside the app.

The second icon is the search feature (shown with a magnifying glass). Using the search feature, you can discover new accounts and posts, search for hashtags, search by geographical location, search for accounts, and even, search for shops.

Next up, you’ll find an icon that takes you to Instagram Reels. Instagram is rapidly growing when it comes to video content, and Reels are an absolute must! Wanna learn more about Reels? This blog is your guide!

That cute shopping bag after the Reels button will take you to your “shops” home page. Instagram allows for the selling of products on Instagram and anything you are purchasing, or saving to purchase later, will be found in this area.

Your own profile photo should be the last icon, wrapping up the main menu. Click here to look at your profile from your audience’s point of view.

Across the top of the home screen, you have some additional icons. The plus sign is there, which allows you to post anything (a live, a post, a story, a reel, a guide, etc). The heart icon next to it shows you all the love you’ve received lately (likes, shares, comments, follows, etc).

And finally, you have access to your Instagram DMs. Be sure to pop into these regularly as you may have what’s called Message Requests. These are messages from new-to-you people and don’t show up as a notification; they’re somewhat hidden!

Instagram Tips For Your Pet Wellness Brand

Tip #1: Nail Your Profile

Don’t forget to visit your Instagram profile from time to time to make sure it’s actually working for your business. Your profile is your home on the Instagram app. It’s where people go to learn more about you.

As a pet wellness expert, your profession may be harder to describe. The general public may not quite understand what it is you offer. That’s why your profile really needs to be top-notch.

Be sure to write a short, concise, and engaging bio description, making sure to clearly state what it is you do and who you do it for. Be crystal clear here. Don’t feel like you need to make the statement really buzzy or exciting. The more clear you are, the quicker people will understand what you offer. And that’s the main goal.

Don’t forget to include a link to your website or a link platform like Linktree. You want to make sure that your audience has somewhere to go if they want to learn more or book a service with you.

Tip #2: Get Visual

There is no denying that Instagram is a highly visual platform. They are so serious about this fact that you cannot even post a post/story/anything if it does not include a video or image. This can be tricky for pet wellness experts that do really well with written content. But creating visual content is totally in your wheelhouse – I promise!

If you don’t have a ton of photos of clients or your work, you’ll just have to get creative. You can utilize some great stock photos (but first, read this post to make sure you’re using them strategically) or take some of your own camera phone photos to pair with some engaging captions. You don’t need to be really fancy here.

The trick is to find and/or create visually interesting images, graphics, and videos to publish. The visuals are going to grab attention and drive engagement on a platform like Instagram. But don’t forget about the caption. This is your place to shine! You want to make sure that you’re consistently educating your audience on what it is you do (getting into specific procedures, methods, or services), who you do it for, and why they need to reach out to you right now.

Tip #3: Set Up Some Guides

Guides are an amazing Instagram feature for pet wellness experts. Once you’ve published a Guide, they live on your Instagram profile and become a really handy reference space for your audience.

Want a more in-depth look at Guides? Don’t miss out on this blog post!

Guides allow you to pull together lots of useful information and package it for your audience. Are you a holistic vet? You can save a bunch of your helpful posts into a Guide, educating your audience on how they can create a more holistic life for their pet. You might also want to create product guide featuring some of your favorite holistic pet products.

Reiki practitioners, doggy masseuses, nutritionists… whatever your field, Guides are a great place for you to compile your expertise. Because you can add older posts to a Guide, it’s a great place to revive older, really helpful content and make sure it doesn’t get lost in the sea of Instagram.

Tip #4: Create A Need

Pet wellness experts and brands tend to fly under the radar, and that’s okay. You may not be a business that many people know about. You need to make sure that you’re consistently educating your clients in order to create a need for your service. That means, you’re really opening up the door for your audience; they aren’t just walking on in.

To do this, you need to be solving an obvious and recurring problem that pet parents are facing (such as not being able to cure their pet’s skin condition). You educate them and offer a solution they didn’t know existed (such as better pet nutrition). Your posts should really be centered around this idea of education. What can you share in order to build even more awareness about what it is you do?

There are some amazing pet wellness experts popping up online. I’m always so excited when I come across a pet wellness expert’s Instagram profile. If this is you, don’t sleep on the tips above! Make sure you’re using Instagram to its full potential!
